Tow Truck Training Course of Conduct

1. Course Integrity

2. Course Information
2.1 Course Objectives:
This course has been developed specifically for tow truck drivers. The goal is to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the industry and ensure you meet the necessary legal and safety standards.
2.2 Course Structure:
The course will be conducted for a duration of 8 hours and is divided into the following modules:
- Module 1: Introduction to Tow Industry Vehicles
- Module 2: Safe Working Environment Health & Safety
- Module 3: Transportation Legislation, Regulations & Policies
- Module 4: On-Scene Protocols
- Module 5: On-Scene Safety Measures & Management
- Module 6: Towing, Winching and Extrication Techniques
- Module 7: Roadside Services
- Module 8: Safe Driving Practices: Co-operative and Safe Tow Operation
2.3 Intended Learning Outcomes:
Module 1: Introduction to Tow Industry Vehicles
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Identify and explain common tow truck driving terms encountered in the industry.
- Understand the capacity, licensing requirements, and capabilities of a light-duty towing vehicle.
Module 2: Safe Working Environment Health & Safety
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Identify information related to workplace safety, explain associated regulations, and identify illnesses that arise from unsafe work practices.
- Identify hazards and plan for their potential occurrence.
- Explain the use of personal protective equipment, identify biohazards, and know how to avoid workplace injuries.
- Recognize work-related trauma and how to find self-care resources.
Module 3: Transportation Legislation, Regulations & Policies
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Describe the function of a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR)
- Classify weight and measurement controls using mathematical calculations for towing
- Comply with load securement regulations that apply to towing vehicles
- Apply required lighting to a towing vehicle based on regulations
Module 4: On-Scene Protocols
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Describe their general role and responsibilities as tow truck drivers while working in emergency situations in conjunction with other emergency response teams
- Demonstrate and comply with appropriate temporary condition requirements
Module 5: On-Scene Safety Measures & Management
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Assess and perform services in coordination with emergency services personnel and with dispatch
- Plan ahead, anticipate problems, and begin to deal with an emergency situation
- Perform towing tasks while demonstrating safe practices
Module 6: Towing, Winching and Extrication Techniques
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Safely secure loads to a tow truck vehicle
- Prepare and appropriately use towing vehicle equipment
- Calculate towing loads and capacity using basic mathematical calculations
- Calculate resistance elements when recovering a vehicle from hostile terrain
- Demonstrate usage of safe hooking techniques
- Demonstrate safe car carrier loading techniques onto a towing vehicle
- Demonstrate safe loading techniques of motorcycles and tricycles onto a towing vehicle
Module 7: Roadside Services
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Perform non-towing services
- Effectively interact and speak with drivers in a professional manner
- Pinpoint visual identifiers in work related environments, complete invoices, and learn consumer service techniques
Module 8: Safe Driving Practices: Co-operative and Safe Tow Operation
Course Intended Learning Outcome:
- Grasp basic towing vehicle components and explain how they operate and how to keep them in working order
- Communicate the risks of hazardous materials and crash debris, and how they should be safely removed
- Explain the importance of engaging in professional development and staying informed of emerging trends and technology in the towing business
2.4 Course Assessment Process and Policy:
Assessments will be conducted based on the following methods:
- Quizzes and exams
The grading policy is outlined as follows:
You are required to receive 100% on your quizzes during your online training and score a 70% or above on your exam.
2.5 Privacy and Legal Policies:
Your privacy is important. The course provider will protect your personal and academic information according to legal standards, including data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
2.6 Final Grade Breakdown:
The final grade will be based on your final exam score.
